What is a Ductoscope?

What is a Ductoscope?

Ductoscope is a device allowing direct visualization of any abnormalities within the ductal system, which is inserted into the ducts of the breast via nipple oriffice. The device is used to identify and diagnose very small lesions, that often cannot be yet detected by mammography, ultrasound or other commonly used screening methods.

A ductoscopy procedure has a short and relatively easy learning curve ensuring correct use and ability to recognize and comment on the images obtained during examination.

THE SCOPE

components

COMPONENTS

DUCTOSCOPYFINAL

1. CHECK VALVE

Check valve is a disposable, sterile packed product for semirigid endoscopy, which is used in combination with instrument and prevents the injected saline from leaking.

2. OPTIC SHIFTER

Optic shifter is a reusable instrument with adjustable length, that positions the fiber-optic micro endoscope in the Polyshaft correctly.

3. PERFUSION TUBE

Perfusion tube is a disposable, 100cm long sterile tube with LuerLock taper, that transports the injected saline through the Handle Short and Polyshaft directly into the milk duct.

4. HANDLE SHORT

Handle Short is the main hub connecting all parts of the device. It consists of 3 female LeurLock connections for the micro-endoscope, irrigation channel and additional tool on one side and opens into a Polyshaft on the other side.

5. POLYSHAFT

The ductoscope contains a disposable Polyshaft cannula with outer diameter of 1.15mm (0.9mm inner diameter), specially designed for easy insertion of the optic. Once inside, its purpose is to be a working channel for the transport of saline or instruments. Working length of the tube is 90mm, allowing in-depth examination of the milk ducts. The product is simultaneously used with disposable obturator and reusable nipple expander, which are essential for ductoscopy, as they ensure a gentle insertion of the micro-endoscope into the nipple orifice.
